Keeping the Digits Warm

Over the weekend my mother-in-law took me "winter" shopping. She wanted to buy me my first Philly winter coat and boots. I said yes, of course, because a) it's super sweet of her and she loves doing things like that, b) I'm broke as hell, and c) I need advice from someone who lives here and hates the cold. So we hit Macy's and I got the following:

This DKNY coat isn't too bulky and is so fuzzy and warm inside. It comes with a detachable hood and it cinches on the cuffs (which I'm told is important). It also has inside pockets, which I always love because they are like secret hiding places.  I am obviously not this person above, who has a Scarlett O'Hara waist, but trust me, it doesn't look half bad on a curvy gal.

I found out a few things doing this coat shopping business. First of all, if you have hips, your choices are kind of limited. You can't really buy the long coats that go to your knees because they will be tight on the hips and bulky up top. And I mean really bulky, not just "room for sweaters" bulky. So I opted for the shorter variety. I wanted a faux fur lined hood, but couldn't find one that looked right, and then this coat came into view. With the sale and our coupons, it was basically half price.

I bought a pair of navy rain boots at Target a week ago that are very cute, and should last me through the non-snowy part of winter.

Eventually, I will need tougher boots. These boots I found at DSW and I felt all wintery just looking at them:

So what's left but accessories, am I right? I still need to keep those digits and my neck warm. I have a few scarves in my arsenal already, but gloves are not my strong suit.

I'm pining after these:

$15 from German Perfection on Etsy

 $11 Merona gloves from Target

$18 Merona gloves in hot pink from Target. Not everything has to be drab and practical in the winter, does it?

Of course the best gloves of all time are $315 from Dolce & Gabbana. Warm and fuzzy on top and smooth buttery leather on the bottom so you can be warmest and bestest at grabbing things. Why are they such a-holes?

What works best for you folks who have survived winters:
mittens, gloves, or fingerless gloves?

Take my poll and let me know!
