Rare pink diamond could fetch up to $38 million at auction

Sotheby is all set to auction a rare pink diamond next month. And the auctioneers at Sotheby are hoping that the diamond would fetch something in the range of $27-$38 million. However it remains to be seen if their expectation is met or not.
Currently the diamond is owned by a private collector who wants to sell it through the auction house. It is said to be 24.78 carats and has a ‘fancy intense pink’ color, which is very rare in the world of diamonds. It is cut in the classic emerald style and is said to have gently rounded corners. The diamond experts say that the diamond has a flaw in it, but it is so small that it won’t at all be seen by naked eyes. They suspect that due to the wear and tear the flaw came into the diamond. However they are also quick to add that if the diamond gets polished again then there are good chances that the flaw might be taken care of and the diamond can also be classified as flawless.
“We’re able to say it’s been in the possession of the same owner for 60 years but beyond that we’re not able to reveal more,” according to Sotheby’s spokesman Matthew Weigman. Prior to the current owner, the stone was sold almost 6 decades ago by New York based jeweler Harry Winston.
