Road Trip: Day 2
Did I forget to mention that Bearizona exists!? It's one of those drive-through wild animal parks. I thought those were extinct. Anyway, I really wanted a Bearizona t-shirt. Sigh... Also, the world's largest preserved meteor impact crater site exists in Arizona as well. We drove by a lot of cool stuff. Too bad we're on a schedule and are toting a dog and cat through the heat or we'd have stopped. The painted desert was beautiful, but the petrified forest didn't look that spectacular from the car. Maybe you have to stop and look at the dried up stumps for it to be moving. I try to sleep when it's M's turn to drive, and even got a nice plush eye-mask, but I can't seem to sleep in the car.
Day two went very well. We got the heck out of Albuquerque (and actually took a wrong turn if you can believe it), and got to Oklahoma City by 7pm, just in time for dinner. We checked into a Howard Johnson that is surprisingly roomy. I've got free wi-fi (thank GOD), cable tv, a roomy room with a fridge and microwave, and a little balcony too. Excellent choice! Day two totally made up for day one. We drove at a nice pace, no traffic, no incidents. Kitty was sleeping all day and then came out in the hotel room to eat and play around. I think he hates this travel business, but he's being pretty cool about not acting traumatized. Radley is being great about the whole thing, as expected, but he puts on a very sad face by the evening-time. We all put on that face, I think.
We listened to the audiobook of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as we drove through the desert. Very good choice!
Tomorrow, off to St. Louis to visit my friend Justine, who just moved there herself. I just read the latest Anita Blake novel, Bullet, and am interested in seeing her hunting grounds in the flesh!
